  • Hard Surface Installation – Common Questions & Answers
    • What is hard surface flooring?
Hard surface flooring includes materials like hardwood, laminate, luxury vinyl plank (LVP), tile, and engineered wood—designed for durability and easy maintenance.
    • How long does installation take?
Most projects take 1–5 days depending on the size of the area, material type, and subfloor condition.
    • Do I need to move my furniture?
Kings Flooring will assist with moving most standard furniture items. However, homeowners are responsible for removing all personal belongings and disconnecting electronics prior to installation.
Please note: Kings Flooring does not move antique furniture, most pianos, or furniture containing glass or mirrors. Each home is different, and specific furniture moving details will be discussed during the in-home inspection.
    • Will my subfloor need preparation?
In many cases, yes. Subfloors may require leveling, repair, or moisture treatment to ensure proper installation and long-term performance.
    • Can new flooring be installed over existing flooring?
Sometimes. It depends on the condition and type of the existing floor. A professional inspection is required to determine if this is possible.
    • Is hard surface flooring better than carpet?
Hard surface flooring is more durable, easier to clean, and better for high-traffic areas and homes with pets or allergies.
    • Will there be dust or mess during installation?
Some dust and noise are expected, especially during demolition. Professional installers take steps to minimize and clean up after the job.
    • Do I need to leave my home during installation?
Not always, but it may be recommended depending on the scope of work, noise levels, and safety considerations.
    • How soon can I walk on my new floors?
In most cases, immediately or within 24 hours, depending on the material and installation method.
    • How do I maintain my new floors?
Regular sweeping, vacuuming, and occasional damp mopping (based on material guidelines) will keep your floors looking new.
    • Will my floor expand or contract?
Yes. Hard surface flooring naturally expands and contracts with temperature and humidity changes. Proper installation accounts for this.
    • Are transitions and baseboards included?
Transitions are typically included, while baseboards or trim may be additional depending on the project scope.
    • Is there a warranty?
Yes. Most flooring products come with manufacturer warranties. Kings Flooring provides a one-year installation warranty, covering workmanship-related issues.
    • What can cause flooring issues after installation?
Common causes include moisture problems, subfloor issues, improper maintenance, or natural expansion and contraction.
    • How much does hard surface installation cost?
Costs vary based on material, square footage, and subfloor condition. A detailed estimate is typically provided after an on-site evaluation.
    • What type of installation methods are there with hardwood flooring?
    • Nail-Down Installation (Solid Hardwood): Traditional method used for solid hardwood installed over wood subfloors using nails.
    • Full Spread Glue-Down Installation (Engineered Hardwood): Common for engineered hardwood, especially over concrete subfloors, using specialized adhesive.
    • Nail & Glue Assist (Wide Plank Hardwood): If hardwood flooring is over 3-1/4 inches wide, we require a nail & glue assist installation to ensure added stability and reduce movement over time.
    • Floating Installation (Engineered Hardwood): Planks are clicked or locked together and “float” over the subfloor without being attached. This method requires an additional underlayment for proper support, sound reduction, and moisture protection.
      • In Conclusion Each method depends on the type of hardwood (solid vs. engineered), plank width, and subfloor conditions. A proper inspection will determine the best installation method for long-term performance.
